Schools

In Hawaii, the public school system is unfortunately not up to par with mainland standards.  Most parents, that can afford to, choose to send their children to private schools.  The most popular being Punahou, IolaniMid Pacific Institute (MidPac) and Kamehameha (Hawaiian Ancestory needed).  Expect to pay in the neighborhood of $15,000/year for a private school education.  No joke!  I have a friend who, at one time, had all SIX of his children enrolled in Punahou… he dreaded those quarterly installments.  Needless to say, they took a well deserved vacation to celebrate the last childs graduation a few years ago.
Start early and get your paper work together, because the class sizes are in the three to four hundred range.  Again much different from mainland standards.
